The Gr8! Women Achievers Awards 2009 held its 8th annual function on the lawns of the ITC Grand Maratha on Tuesday, February 24 in Mumbai. The awards were given in 21 different categories to women achievers from all over the country. The event was attended by some very prominent celebrities like Aamir Khan, Kumaramanglam Birla, Yash Chopra, Hurman S Baweja, Roop Kumar Rathod, Alka Yagnik, Prem Chopra, Farah Khan and many others. The theme of the event was Anu Ranjan's cause against female foeticide called 'Beti'.
The pretty Asin Thottumkal of Ghajini fame won the Gr8! Women Achievers Award for 'Cinema'
Deepika Padukone won the Gr8! Most Promising Newcomer award. Hurman S Baweja was present to give it away.
Balika Vadhu Avika Gor won the award for television
Aamir Khan, Asin's Ghajini co-star, was present to give away some awards. He was delighted to be in such august company of strong and independent women. He said, "God created both man and woman and She created them equal."
